“Why wasn’t this caught earlier?”

June 27, 2019 Posted by Ryan Cook Uncategorized

You will probably agree that these are some of the worst words you can ever say when you’re having your child’s health checked. Many of life’s worst health tragedies are preventable – but only if caught early enough. InfantSEE is a public health program that helps parents detect vision disorders in their infants before the disorders worsen. InfantSEE allows all babies to have a free eye exam.

The official website explains:

“InfantSEE®, a public health program, managed by Optometry Cares® – the AOA Foundation, is designed to ensure that eye and vision care becomes an essential part of infant wellness care to improve a child’s quality of life. Under this program, participating optometrists provide a comprehensive infant eye assessment between 6 and 12 months of age as a no-cost public service.”

Although babies can’t speak and it’s harder to assess their vision, At Washington Vision Therapy we have the clinical expertise necessary to accomplish this. We employ a variety of non-verbal techniques to make sure their eyes are functioning properly. This involves measuring the eyes’ ability to coordinate and the baby’s ability to react to visual stimuli with different variables. We will also check the eye alignment and the overall eye health.

We know you love your little ones, and we do too! Of course, most infants have perfectly healthy eyes, but we still recommend having this free exam done. On the off-chance that your baby does need immediate treatment, you will be glad you came in.
