“We feel like we have our son back”

November 25, 2017 Posted by The Editorial Team Testimonials

My older son and I have always been close. He has always been my biggest support, and he was always in a good mood. He has a great sense of humor that in my worst days would always make me smile. Everything went good between us. But when he turned 13, something changed. He was mad often and argued with me, as well as with his brother and his dad. I thought this must just be puberty. Soon I discovered that there was more wrong than just his mood. School had always been kind of hard for him, but he always was able to get his work done. But now he was failing in two or three of his classes. He began to complain about headaches and avoided his homework. He learned that if he didn’t bring his grades up, he would not be able to continue playing soccer for school. He would cry when I told him he must get his homework done.

One night I got back from work and we had a long conversation. I noticed he would take three hours to read a few pages, and when I asked what he understood from it he would say “I don’t know.” That night I made him stay up late into the night to finish his homework. So when I realized what time it was, it was 2 or 3 in the morning! That night, I cried and cried, thinking what kind of mother am I?  The next morning when I went to work, as soon as I opened my email I saw this pamphlet from the Vision Therapy Center of a kid with books and pencils on his desk, but his hands on his head. I could feel that frustration and I felt like I was seeing my son from the night before. So I read that pamphlet and I made a phone call to make an appointment for him to be seen at Washington Vision Therapy Center. That was the best decision I made for him. Since then he was in vision therapy and soon after beginning therapy, his grades and reading levels improved significantly. He was able to play soccer again for the school because his grades increased so much. Most importantly his sense of humor came back. We are so happy because we feel like we have our son back!

I could never say enough thanks to the staff of Vision Therapy. Please never stop doing what you do; it is a blessing for us. God bless you all.
