Josh’s Story: Invest in Their Vision
Like many kids, Josh struggled with reading and comprehension. He had to go in to a reading specialist every day for about a half an hour. And like most kids, he really did not enjoy it. That was when Josh and his parents started looking into vision therapy. After a routine eye exam from the eye doctor, Josh’s parents were recommended to Washington Vision Therapy Centers. They had heard about vision therapy before, but back then it just hadn’t seemed like the right time. This time though, they decided to go in for the free consultation. Josh’s mom explained, “When we talked to Dr. Zollinger we knew we had to give vision therapy a shot. How could we not invest in his vision?”
They spent the next few months with Dad taking Josh to his therapy sessions and Mom helping with the homework assignments. And thanks to Josh and his parents’ diligence, Josh’s school eventually indicated that he no longer needed to visit with the reading specialist. Josh has even started to like reading, and especially enjoys The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. They’ve even seen some success with Josh’s sports. And while he still struggles with his vision a little bit, they’re grateful for the progress they’ve seen. Mom’s advice for other parents considering vision therapy: “We knew it wasn’t going to be instantaneous, but it’s never been grudgingly slow. For him to go to the appointments and see how proud they were of his progress really encouraged him.” She continues “It [vision therapy] just changes their world. You think about investing in your kids to get braces, and their eyesight is even more important.”
