Driving without good eyesight
In the US a total of 6 million car accidents happen every year, resulting in nearly 13,000 annual casualties. That’s more than 90 fatalities per day! At Washington Vision Therapy Center your health and safety are very important to us. We want you to see better and live better! Having good vision has everything to do with driving safely.
When you go to get your driver’s license or to renew it, you will be required to take a vision test. As you may recall, this test requires participants to stand a distance away from a sign and correctly read it. Both eyes will be tested individually. If it is determined that you have vision better than 20/40 then you may proceed with your license, otherwise you will need to take measures in order to improve your eyesight. Don’t worry if you need glasses to see well – you’re allowed them during the visual exam.
Obviously, driving is an extremely visual task that requires both depth perception and a good field of vision. If you are concerned about passing this vision test and being able to see well as you drive, we encourage you to come in and see us! You will be warmly welcomed into our office and we’ll be able to pinpoint whatever issues may be impeding you from see well. We believe that solving a problem has everything to do with correctly diagnosing it. Once diagnosed, we’ll talk about what kind of treatments might best serve you.
Additionally, it should be noted that even some people who have driver’s licenses still feel like better vision would help them drive safer.
