Better Reading, Better Basketball

April 29, 2020 Posted by Ryan Cook Uncategorized

“Before I started eye therapy, I had a lot of headaches and I would get tired easily and when I could play basketball my head would hurt out of nowhere. But now that I am done with therapy, my reading has gotten better. I don’t get tired and I don’t have headaches. Thanks to Andre I can play basketball without sitting on the bench because of how much my head would hurt and I am thankful for Andre because he showed me that reading isn’t as boring as it was and basketball is a lot better. All I really want to say is ‘Thank you, Andre’.”

In addition to being a Kennewick optometrist practice, we also love serving our patients who struggle with vision-related problems. As this child related, many kids eyes hurt as they do activities that involve intensive eye tracking. As adults, sometimes we don’t understand what they’re really saying when they talk about “getting tired” or their “eyes hurting”, and we assume that they just don’t like the task they’re faced with. What we don’t realize is that the strength of the brain’s connection to the eyes might be to blame.

Vision therapy can help! Even children who score 20/20 on an eyesight exam struggle with vision conditions from time to time, since eyesight is not the same thing as vision. Vision therapy can strengthen a child or adult’s ability to do many day-to-day tasks that currently are harder than they need to be.

Have a question? Know someone that might benefit from improving their vision? We’d love to help!
