5 Ways to Fight Glaucoma in Your 50s

January 16, 2026 Posted by Ryan Cook Uncategorized

Glaucoma is a progressive eye condition usually caused by fluid build up in the eyes. This fluid build up causes pressure which can damage the optic nerve, leading to blindness. Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in persons over 60. While incurable, with early treatment, this eye disease can be pretty easily prevented. Now is the time to start assessing your habits to promote eye health, and prevent Glaucoma and other common eye diseases.

Exercise

Everyone knows that regular physical activity provides innumerable health benefits, but many people don’t know that it can help prevent many eye diseases. While investigations are still being conducted, recent studies show that people who engage in regular moderate activity are 25% less likely to develop glaucoma. Exercise can also assist those who already have glaucoma by increasing blood flow and decreasing eye pressure. So, get moving and keep your eyes healthy!

Sleep

A significant correlation has been found between sleep disorders and glaucoma in adults over 40.
